Part of the difficulty in trying to describe Rolfing to people is that, above all, Rolfing is an experience. A friend of mine once said that, "Rolfers talking about Rolfing is like painters talking about painting." To know what Rolfing is, one has to experience it first-hand. This means finding a Rolfer and committing to a series of sessions.

I have found that Rolfing is different for each person. For some it may seem like accelerated yoga- they experience greater flexibility and a feeling of length and suppleness in the body. Others may see Rolfing as a way of opening a new sense of aliveness in the body. Others may feel "stuck" and use Rolfing as a tool for change. It is my feeling that this may be one of the most potent areas of Rolfing- using to work as way of unblocking what feels stuck and allowing the client to experience greater energy and depth of feeling/perception.

My own experience was that Rolfing helped to unblock my expression and feeling. I became more spontaneous and trusting of my instincts. I experienced both a sense of "groundedness" and a sense
of "lift" that hadn't been present before. I became clearer - both mentally and emotionally.
